The Musicians of Blackthorn
Rosie

Rosie
Violin, Vocals

Rosie is a classically trained violinist, teacher and assistant director of Vancouver Corelli Strings. She was their Concert Master for 14 years. She was lured into playing Celtic music through Graham Carver’s intriguing musical arrangements. Now it seems to have infected her Hungarian blood, and when the fiddlin’ starts, Rosie can hoe-down and dirty with the best of ‘em!

Michelle

Michelle
Vocals, Flute, Piccolo, Pennywhistle, Fife

Starting at the wee age of eight, Michelle has played the flute, and even before that, the piano. She spent many years developing musical skills in areas including Classical, Jazz, Latin, Blues and Rock. Then along came the opportunity to "go Celtic" and she fell into the embrace of the mystical melodies! The churning rhythms! The complex harmonies! Michelle has enjoyed more than a decade playing, touring and recording (and laughing) with Blackthorn.

Dianne

Dianne
Accordions, Banjo, Vocals

Dianne’s roots are classically celtic which is why she loves the music played by Blackthorn. In the past she has played for the Tiddley Cove Morris dancers and formed the pick-up band Quasi-Modal. She also played with the Tribal Celts, a punk Irish band, before settling down with Blackthorn in 1994. She brings 36 years playing experience and the ability to use both her right and left hand on the accordion.

Michael

Michael
Vocals, 6 & 12-string Guitars, Bodhran, Sundry Noise Makers, Keeper of the Web

One of that rare breed actually born in Vancouver, he has spent a good portion of his life mixed up in music. Whether as a horn player in various bands (R&B, swing, reggae, calypso) and pit orchestras or as the bass singer for the acappella group The Melloyds, he has always preferred the stage and the road over what his parents affectionately referred to as "a real job".

Tim

Tim
Bass, Vocals, Bodhran

Raised in a family of seven artistic siblings with music spilling out all around him, it seems as if Tim was destined to do something in music. After singing in choirs as a child, Tim decided to take up the trombone when in high school and he tinkered around on all of the brass instruments he could find. When a bass player kept missing an after-school blues jam, Tim decided to try out this non-brass instrument and spent hours on end in his parents' basement, learning everything he could about this new aspect of music. TIm's everlasting goal is to support musicians around him.
